Curious what to look for to see if you have birds looking to nest in your space?
Here are some signs of bird nesting in corporate buildings and infrastructure as Spring approaches:
- Increased bird activity.
You’ll notice an uptick in bird activity around the building, including more birds flying in and out of the area. - Nest building materials.
You’ll discover twigs, grass, feathers, or other nesting materials in and around the building’s exterior, such as in window ledges, air vents, or on building ledges. - Vocalizations.
Chirping or other bird calls coming from areas around the building, indicating potential nesting sites will be more audible. - Nesting behavior.
Birds will exhibiting nesting behaviors such as carrying nesting materials, entering and exiting potential nesting sites repeatedly, or perching near potential nesting locations. - Droppings.
Bird droppings will become concentrated in specific areas around the building, potentially indicating frequent bird activity and nesting. - Nest structures.
You’ll likely be able to spot actual bird nests in places like window sills, building ledges, or roof eaves. - Nest guarding.
Birds in your area will begin displaying defensive behaviors near their nests, such as swooping or vocalizing loudly when people or other animals approach. - Egg sightings.
Bird eggs will sometimes fall out of the nest making them visible in or around the building, either on the ground or within nests. - Unusual Debris.
Noticing unusual debris or materials around the building? This can potentially indicating birds scavenging for nesting materials. - Damage to property.
Damage to building infrastructure caused by nesting birds, such as blocked vents, clogged drains, or damaged insulation will be easy to identify.
